Love letter to, uh, Lyle of Los Angeles, danger-close to Pittsburgh

Lyle
On Thursday at PittRace, Lyle, you gave me a gift. During the video review of my lowside in #5 on the camera-bike, you showed me something that my first 2 reviews hadn’t.

With your Horizon-Analysis technique, you showed me what I later read in the Level 4 handout: the warning to exactly my error — adding throttle & lean-angle simultaneously.

You got me from the facile “cold tires” diagnosis to the actionable root-cause that I hungered for, to answer:

“What input did I make that caused my lowside?”

In that PittRace conference room, and despite the irritating touch screen, you gave me something with which I can work.

You stripped my off of its menacing-mystery by comparing horizon changes combined with your read of the camera-bike’s telemetry.

I’m grateful to have been able to make the 5-hour drive home, with the mystery stripped away, and circular wonderings not dogging my mile-marker thoughts all the way across the Allegheny.

Lyle, many thanks 🙏

Gus
